A new campaign is paused. It won’t call a single person until you turn it on. This is a feature, not a limitation. It means you can build everything, look it over, and test it, all with zero risk of a surprise call going out. When you’re ready, you press Go live. But do it on purpose, after a quick check.

Prerequisites

  • An agent with a campaign. See Quickstart.
  • A payment method on your agency wallet. Calls are paid minutes.
  • For the API, a key with agents:write.

Step 1: Run the pre-flight checklist

Before you go live, make sure the basics are in place. The platform checks most of these for you and won’t let a campaign go live if something’s missing.
1

There's someone to call

There is a way in, so people can actually join the list. On a GoHighLevel sub-account that means at least one entry tag in activeTags. On one that keeps its contacts here, new contacts join as they arrive and you can put existing ones in yourself. An inbound campaign needs a connected phone number instead, and a confirmation campaign a trigger calendar. See Who gets called.
2

There's a number to call from

A caller ID is in fromNumbers. See The phone number.
3

The extras your capabilities need

Appointment Booking needs a calendar in config.calendarId. Live Transfer needs a destination. A power-dialer campaign needs a cadence in config.cadenceId. The platform tells you if one is missing. There is no separate validation call, so read the campaign back with Get campaign if you would rather check first.

Your hours are sane

Your calling window and timezone rule are set the way you want. See Calling window.

Step 2: Test before you trust

Don’t let the first real call be the first call you’ve ever heard. Fire a test call to yourself first, and run one contact through the real campaign entry. Listen to it like a customer would:
  • Does the opening line sound like a person?
  • Does the agent handle a “no” gracefully?
  • Does it hit the goal without being pushy?
  • Does the right follow-up happen after you hang up?
Fix what sounds off, then test again. A few minutes here saves a lot of awkward calls later. The three kinds of test are in Test your agent.

Step 3: Flip it on

Once it checks out, switch the campaign live. In the dashboard that is the Go live button at the top of Agent Builder. If something is still missing, it lists only what is missing; otherwise the campaign goes live at once, and the button becomes Go offline. In the API it is one field:
Now, when someone gets your entry tag or a new contact arrives, and it is inside your calling hours, the agent starts dialling. Inbound campaigns handle calls to their connected number, and confirmation campaigns follow their trigger calendar. The campaign records firstLiveAt, with firstLiveAtSource saying whether that was the switch (activation) or the first call (first_dial).
Going live isn’t one-way. Set active: false to pause a campaign any time, make changes, and turn it back on. Start small, watch the first real calls, and scale up once you’re happy.

Step 4: Keep an eye on it

After you go live, watch the early calls. Read a few call summaries, check the outcomes, and see whether the right follow-up fired. The first day of real calls teaches you more than any amount of setup. Adjust, and let it run.
