# Power Dialer

> Configure the campaign's scheduled follow-up: its cadence, dialing options and lead queue.

**Power Dialer belongs to the campaign.** Open the campaign's **Power Dialer**
tab to set its scheduled follow-up and see the leads moving through it.

Each campaign has **one linked cadence at a time, or none**. That cadence is the
ordered list of steps this campaign follows. You edit the campaign's schedule;
you do not need to choose among project-wide or global schedules.

## One setup, three parts

* **[The campaign's cadence](/campaigns/cadences)** defines the sequence of calls,
  messages and other scheduled steps, and the time between them.
* **Dialing options** control the immediate speed-to-lead call and double dial,
  described below.
* **[The campaign's queue](/campaigns/pipeline)** shows which leads are waiting,
  being called or parked, and lets you manage them.

Leads enter through the [campaign's trigger](/campaigns/audience). The cadence
controls what happens after entry. Inbound campaigns answer incoming calls and
do not use an outbound dialing cadence; confirmation campaigns use steps timed
relative to the appointment.

## Speed to lead

Speed to lead is an **immediate call**, fired the moment a lead enters, on top of
the cadence. It is not an alternative to the cadence.

So a campaign with speed to lead on and a cadence containing five call steps can call immediately,
then make up to five scheduled attempts if the lead remains eligible. That is the intended behaviour
and it is the single most misread setting here: people turn it on expecting it to
replace the schedule, when it can mean up to six calls instead of five.

Turning the instant call off while leaving the follow-up cadence running is a
normal thing to want. For confirmation campaigns, **Skip when the AI booked it**
skips only the immediate call on AI-booked appointments. Scheduled reminders
still run. An appointment booked today for Friday can trigger a call today and
separate reminders before Friday’s appointment.

## Double dial

Double dial gives a **missed** call one more attempt, about a minute later,
instead of waiting for the next scheduled step.

It retries only when the first attempt genuinely missed: voicemail, no answer,
declined, an IVR, silence, or a carrier failure. A call that was answered is
never redialled, and a booked call is never redialled.

<Warning>
  There are **three independent** double dial controls. Turning one on does
  not enable the others. Choose whether you mean the immediate call, a scheduled
  cadence step, or a callback.
</Warning>

| | Where it lives | What it covers |
| - | - | - |
| **Speed to lead** | One switch on the campaign | The immediate on-arrival call |
| **Power Dialer** | Per cadence **step** | That step's scheduled call |
| **Callback** | One switch on the campaign | An eligible missed callback; at most one extra attempt |

The Power Dialer one being per step is deliberate: it is common to want a second
attempt on the first call of the day and not on the fifth. So a cadence can have
double dial on step 1 and off everywhere else.

Speed-to-lead double dial needs speed to lead to be on. On a campaign with no
instant call the switch still saves, and nothing ever reads it.

## Where the hours come in

The dialer respects the [calling window](/campaigns/calling-window). A cadence
step that falls outside permitted hours does not fire early or get skipped, it
waits for the next opening.

So the cadence says *how often*, and the window says *when it is allowed*. If
attempts seem to land at odd times, check both.

## In the API

* [Update campaign](/api-reference/campaigns/update-campaign) sets the dialing options under `calling` (`speedToLead`, `powerDialer`, `s2lDoubleDial`, `callbackDoubleDial`) and the schedule under `calling.cadence`
* [Get queue summary](/api-reference/campaigns/get-queue-summary) and [Get pipeline steps](/api-reference/campaigns/get-pipeline-steps) show the queue
